On 10 June, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, turned 97. At the age of 18, Prince Philip joined the British Royal Navy. After the war he was granted permission by King George VI to marry his daughter, Princess Elizabeth and they married in November 1947. Philip retired from his royal duties on 2 August 2017, meeting Royal Marines in his final solo public engagement. A 21-gun salute took place in Mid and East Antrim this June to mark the Duke’s birthday.
