Film critic & television presenter Barry Norman was best known for hosting Film…, on BBC One from 1972 to 1998. Born in London on 21 Aug 1933, he was the son of a film director and the eldest of 3 children. He began his career in journalism at the Kensington News and went on to be show business editor at the Daily Mail, until 1971. Norman was, for some years, a regular radio broadcaster on BBC Radio 4, being the original presenter for transport show, Going Places and travel magazine, Breakaway. In 1981 he received the BAFTA Richard Dimbleby award, Magazine Columnist of the Year in 1991 and in 1998 he was awarded a CBE. Norman sadly passed away on 30 June 2017.
