The Famous Five series of books was written by English author Enid Blyton. The first book, Treasure Island, was published in 1942. The novels follow a group of children and their dog Timmy. Stories follow the gang camping, on holiday and hiking, with the children exploring islands, sea shores and picturesque countryside. Blyton only intended to write six books but due to the overwhelming success of the novels she went on to write a total of 21.
