2017 marks the 100th anniversary of The Order of the
British Empire. First created in 1917 by King George V, this
is an order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts
and sciences, charity work and public service outside of the
civil service. The 100th anniversary was marked at St Paul’s Cathedral and was attended by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh and lead by The Bishop of Edmonton and The Rt Revd Rob Wickham. Also attending were 2000 holders of the Orders. The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines
Portsmouth played voluntaries before and after the service.
