Theresa May officially triggered Article 50 at 12.30pm on Wednesday 29 March 2017, launching 2 years of negotiations that will end with Brexit in 2019. Donald Tusk, the president of
the European Commission, confirmed he had received Britain's letter, confirming the news. The letter represents the formal mechanism which will begin the two year negotiation for the terms of Britain’s exit from the European Union. It means that the UK will quit the EU by March 29 2019 at the latest, ahead of
the European Parliament elections in May of that year.
