On 17 May 1977, Her Majesty the Queen visited Glasgow, accompanied by her husband The Duke of Edinburgh, as part of her Silver Jubilee tour. The Queen and Prince Philip arrived at Glasgow Central Station and from there they visited the Cathedral followed by a walkabout in George Square, where they were greeted by tens of thousands of people. The Royal couple then made their way to Hampden Park to watch a football match between home side Glasgow and English Select. The tour continued with a visit to the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, taking in an exhibition of her 25 year reign. The day was finished off with an evening at the Jubilee Gala.
