Valerie Singleton OBE, was born on 9 April 1937 and this year celebrates her 80th birthday. She is best known for being a presenter on popular children’s TV show Blue Peter. Educated at Frensham Heights School she wanted to be a dancer and for two years attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Singleton joined the BBC in 1961 as an announcer and joined Blue Peter in 1962. During her time on Blue Peter, she joined Princess Anne on an overseas trip to a Kenyan Royal Safari. Singleton stopped presenting Blue Peter in 1972 but continued making appearances until the end of 1975. Along with co-star John Noakes, she is more closely associated with Blue Peter than any other presenter. After Blue Peter she went on to present many BBC productions, notably undertaking a ten year stint on BBC Radio 4 PM.
