The programme ran for two series and followed the adventures of the Carter family , who aimed to re-open and run the Flockton to Lane End branch railway. Filming was done on the newly re-opened West Somerset Railway which also owned the engines and rolling stock used in the series. The Flockton Flyer provided early television appearances for actors such as Peter Duncan and Gwyneth Strong.
