Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on 25 June 1963, George Michael was an English singer, songwriter & producer. He started his pop career in the duo Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley who was a friend from school. The band’s first album Fantastic was a UK number 1 in 1983 producing Top 10 singles such as ‘Young Guns’, ‘Wham Rap!’ and ‘Club Tropicana’. Michael and Ridgeley went their separate ways in 1986 and George carried on with a solo career. His first solo single in 1987 was ‘I Knew You Were Waiting’, a duet with Aretha Franklin. Michael went on to have a long successful solo career with many hits including, ‘Faith’, ‘Freedom’ and ‘Father Figure’. Sadly, at his home in Oxfordshire, on 25th December 2016, Michael passed away peacefully in his sleep, aged 53.
