This year’s Christmas message from Her Majesty the Queen, focused on inspiration and achievements, highlighting the success of this year’s Olympians and Paralympians at Rio 2016. She went on to comment on how she had been inspired by the ‘dedication’ of doctors, paramedics and crew at the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service, which she visited earlier in the year and where her grandson, Prince William works as a helicopter pilot. She continued her message by acknowledging the work and commitment of ‘ordinary heroes’ doing ordinary things. She said of the 600 charities which she is patron, ‘they inspire me with the work they do’. Her Majesty also focused on The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and The Prince’s Trust. She ended with ‘The message of Christmas reminds us that inspiration is a gift to be given as well as received and that love begins small but will always grow’.
