Released on 12 August 1971, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is an adaptation of the 1964 Roald Dahl novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Starring Gene Wilder,plot centres on the weird and magical chocolate factory belonging to Mr Willy Wonka. Wonka launches a competition for five children to visit his factory and hides five golden tickets in Wonka bars with the lucky finders winning a place on the tour and the chance to win a lifetime supply of chocolate. As the children and their parents are shown around the amazing factory, one by one each child loses their place as they defy Wonka’s instructions and come to a sticky end. Charlie Bucket is the one little boy left at the end and it is revealed that the competition was actually a test, with the real prize being the entire factory itself, as Wonka was looking for an heir. Charlie won everything.
