Windsor Castle was the setting for a spectacular gala in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her 90th Birthday. Celebrating her life, the show had an equine theme reflecting our monarch’s love of horses. Over 90 minutes long with 900 horses and 1500 participants, the 90-year journey took the audience from her birth, through World War II, her Marriage to Prince Philip, the Coronation and her reign of more than 60 years. Hosted by TV presenters Ant and Dec, many famous faces performed on this special occasion including, Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Shirley Bassey, Downton Abbey actor Jim Carter, and actor Damian Lewis. Military bands from across the Commonwealth joined the celebrations with the New Zealand Army band stealing this part of the show. The finale brought all performers together in the main arena, a birthday cake was brought out, Dame Shirley Bassey sang the James Bond theme Diamonds are Forever before Happy Birthday was played, followed by the National Anthem.
