Eugene Curran ‘Gene’ Kelly was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA on 23 August 1912. He was an American dancer, actor, singer, film director, producer and choreographer, best known for his energetic and athletic dancing style. He is most recognised for his performances in films such as An American in Paris, Anchors Aweigh and Singin’ in the Rain. He helped transform the Hollywood musical and received
several lifetime achievement awards. Kelly died in his sleep at his Beverly Hills home on 2 February 1996 at the age of 83.
